Experience an unforgettable Rome

Escape the gray autumn days and rain with us to Rome! Rome is an experience that immerses travelers in the unhurried Italian way of life. The city’s narrow streets, bustling piazzas, and the glowing atmosphere in the evenings invite you to pause for a moment. The aroma of freshly ground espresso fills the cafés, fresh pasta steams in the trattorias, and gelaterias offer flavors that make your vacation a delight. In Rome, history is present in everything, yet the city feels vibrant and modern. It offers the perfect combination of relaxation, culture, and inspiration—and leaves travelers with the feeling that they simply must return.

We’ll tour Rome’s attractions and sights led by a Finnish-speaking local guide. As usual, a Matka Mäkelä tour leader will also be joining us, staying at the same hotel as the group.

Preliminary itinerary

Monday, October 12, 2026

We will depart late Sunday night with the chartered bus passengers according to a separate schedule. We will take a coffee break during the trip at our own expense. The flight from Helsinki to Rome departs at 7:20 a.m.
Upon arrival, we will be met by our group’s private bus. We will take a sightseeing tour of Rome by bus, led by a local Finnish-speaking guide. After the tour, we will enjoy a group lunch included in the trip price. After lunch, we will check into the hotel.
The rest of the day is free time for the group.

Tuesday, October 13
We’ll start the morning with a delicious hotel breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll set out with a Finnish-speaking local guide to explore the Doria Pamphilj Gallery. It is a large private art collection featuring works from the 1400s to the 1800s. The gallery consists of several Baroque halls and hall of mirrors, whose walls are densely covered with paintings.

After the Doria Pamphilj Gallery, we’ll enjoy a group lunch included in the tour price. After lunch, we’ll take a walking tour led by a Finnish-speaking local guide through Rome’s most beautiful squares and visit the interior of the Pantheon. The Pantheon is one of the world’s best-preserved ancient buildings. It is considered particularly significant due to its massive concrete dome, and inside it houses, among other things, the tomb of the Renaissance artist Raphael.

After the tour, the rest of the day is free time for the group.

Wednesday, October 14, 2026

Today you have the option to take the day off. You can relax at the hotel or go shopping and explore the sights on your own. You also have the option to purchase an admission ticket in advance to Ancient Rome and explore on your own how the Eternal City came to be.

In addition, you have the option to join the tour guide to visit one of Rome’s most iconic sights: the Colosseum. Admission tickets will be purchased on-site if available.

Thursday, October 15, 2026
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll set off again, led by a Finnish-speaking guide, toward a winery near Rome. There, we’ll learn about winemaking and its history. We’ll also taste wines and enjoy lunch together at the winery. On the way back, we’ll stop in the village of Castel Gandolfo, located on the shore of a crater lake. The village, situated on the shores of Lake Albino, is known for its stunning views down to the crater lake and the Pope’s summer residence.

After returning to the hotel, the rest of the evening is free time for the group.

Friday, October 16
We’ll enjoy the hotel’s delicious breakfast before checking out of our rooms. We’ll travel from the hotel to the airport on the group’s own bus. The flight from Rome to Finland departs at 10:30 a.m. local time. Upon arriving in Finland, we’ll continue our journey home with the chartered bus passengers toward Central Finland, following the same route we took on the way here.
